About Canta COQUÍ

Canta COQUÍ was created to address the significant shortage of biliterate teachers serving bilingual and Emergent Bilingual (EB) students across Texas. As the Spanish-speaking student population continues to grow, many districts struggle to recruit and retain educators who can effectively teach in both English and Spanish.

To help meet this need, Canta COQUÍ recruits talented educators from Puerto Rico—an often underutilized yet highly qualified pool of bilingual teachers. This initiative creates a unique opportunity to connect skilled educators with school communities that urgently need their expertise.

Successfully bridging this gap requires more than simply introducing teachers to job openings. Canta COQUÍ has carefully identified the barriers that often prevent qualified educators from accessing teaching opportunities in Texas, including certification requirements, relocation challenges, and cultural transition.

To overcome these obstacles, Canta COQUÍ has developed a comprehensive model that supports teachers throughout the process—from recruitment and certification guidance to relocation support and cultural integration—ensuring both educators and school districts are positioned for long-term success.

Mission

Canta COQUÍ’s mission is to connect highly qualified, biliterate educators who are fluent in English and Spanish with teaching opportunities in Texas schools. Our goal is to strengthen bilingual education and support the academic success of Spanish-speaking students.
